Meeting mental health needs in the communities we serve
Our Youth Programs are dedicated to supporting the mental health and well-being of young people through a range of specialized services. From outpatient counseling and psychiatric care to school-based support and intensive day treatment, these programs are designed to meet the diverse needs of youth in our community. Each service is tailored to help young individuals navigate their challenges, build resilience, and achieve their full potential.
Youth Psychiatric Services
MHSCC’s Youth Psychiatric Services are designed for young individuals who require psychiatric evaluation and medication management. These services are provided by child and adolescent psychiatrists who specialize in the unique needs of younger patients. After a comprehensive assessment, the psychiatrist may recommend a medication regimen to help manage symptoms related to mood disorders, anxiety, ADHD, or other psychiatric conditions. Regular follow-ups ensure that the treatment plan is effective and adjusted as needed, always in coordination with the youth’s therapist and family.
Outpatient Counseling
Outpatient Counseling at MHSCC provides a safe and supportive environment for youth to address mental health challenges. The program offers individual and family therapy sessions, focusing on issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and behavioral concerns. Licensed therapists work closely with each young person to develop a personalized treatment plan that aims to build coping skills, improve emotional regulation, and enhance overall well-being. Family involvement is encouraged to ensure a holistic approach, with sessions available to address family dynamics and improve communication.
School-Based Services
MHSCC partners with local schools to offer mental health services directly within the school setting. These School-Based Services aim to provide convenient access to care for students who might otherwise face barriers to receiving treatment. Services include individual counseling, crisis intervention, and support groups, all provided by trained mental health professionals. By integrating mental health care into the school environment, MHSCC helps students navigate academic and social challenges while receiving the support they need to thrive both in and out of the classroom.
Youth Challenges Day Treatment Program
The Youth Challenges Day Treatment Program is an intensive therapeutic program designed for youth who need more structured support than traditional outpatient services can provide. This program combines academic instruction with therapeutic interventions, offering a comprehensive approach to treatment.
Participants attend the program during the day and engage in both individual and group therapy, as well as skills-building activities. The program’s goal is to help youth develop the coping mechanisms and behavioral strategies necessary to succeed in school and daily life. Collaboration with schools ensures that participants stay on track academically while receiving the mental health support they need.
Intensive Home and Community-Based Treatment
The Intensive Home and Community-Based Treatment program at MHSCC utilizes the Integrated Co-Occurring Treatment (ICT) model, a best-practice approach designed to address the complex needs of youth with co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders. This program is highly individualized and provides therapy and support within the home and community settings, allowing for real-time interventions and a more flexible approach to care.
The ICT model emphasizes the importance of family involvement, helping to strengthen the support system around the young person while addressing both their mental health and substance use challenges. The program aims to reduce symptoms, prevent out-of-home placements, and promote long-term recovery and stability. By working closely with the youth and their families in their natural environments, this treatment approach ensures that the care provided is both relevant and effective in achieving positive outcomes.
Transition-Aged Youth Services
MHSCC recognizes the unique challenges faced by transition-aged youth (ages 16-24) as they move from adolescence to adulthood. This critical phase involves navigating educational, vocational, and social milestones, while also managing mental health needs. Our specialized services for transition-aged youth aim to support these individuals by providing guidance and resources tailored to their specific life stage.
Services include individualized care plans that focus on building life skills, fostering independence, and preparing for adulthood. Transition-aged youth can access vocational counseling, housing support, and assistance with higher education planning, in addition to receiving ongoing mental health treatment. Our team works collaboratively with young adults, their families, and external agencies to ensure a seamless transition from youth services to adult care, offering consistent support along the way.
By addressing both mental health and life skills, MHSCC helps transition-aged youth build a strong foundation for a successful and independent future.
